The Personal Journey 365, the wilderness period
This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’ He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us. Acts 7:37-38 NIV
The term “wilderness” can be defined as a part of a garden set apart for plants growing with unchecked luxuriance (luxuriant growth or productiveness; richness, abundance; lushness). In the Spiritual sense, the wilderness period is season of our life spent alone with God, period. The amount of time in the wilderness is directly proportional to our surrender. It may be the very first time that we surrender our own limited understanding and start building a personal relationship with God. While it may seem lonely at first, there is no other time that our connection with God is fuller. The understanding is upside- down from this temporal finite world in which we are merely visitors.
God will move heaven and earth to get your attention, but many still rebel. To rebel the wilderness period is to say, “God, I have no desire to get to know you or experience your boundless love.” It’s a fool’s journey for those who choose not to surrender to Truth met in the wilderness. The wilderness period can be heaven or hell, it is our choice.
In Exodus from the Bible, the Israelites took an entire generation of time to find their way to the Promised Land. The Promised Land is simply the favor bestowed upon the surrendering heart. The prize is the relationship with God achieved only in the vacuum of nothingness found in the wilderness. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33, KJV).
Jesus Christ is the key, and the only way to God. When you profess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, and was resurrected from the dead by God then you are saved. The fullness of this salvation is the day-to-day lifelong journey of personal intimacy with Christ. It is a complete change of perspective which is no longer self-centered, but God-centered.
The Holy Spirit sent by God in Jesus’ name after Christ’s resurrection, is the advocate who teaches and remind us of everything Christ said (John 14:26). So rejoice those of you “chosen” to tread the wilderness, for it is the most revealing, fulfilling, and explosive time of the entire personal journey.
Therefore, surrender to the teaching of the Holy Spirit. Let your heart go to Jesus Christ and you will find the paradise, the Promised Land you seek. The need for impressing man dissipates for you are then home. The answer is within you, so choose life.
