The Personal Journey 365, moving out of your “Comfort Zone”

Good News Broadcasting & Multimedia - Online Christian Media

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

The “Comfort Zone” can be described as that manageable position we assume we control and portray to the rest of the world out of fear of the truth.  The word comfort is a misnomer because this position is usually not comfortable — only familiar.  Many have learned to juggle and weave an intricate façade to portray some sense of normality to themselves, and the rest of the world.  When we are challenged to move out of this Comfort Zone and into unknown territory it can be more than a little frightening.  Most will spend all of their lives managing this uncomfortable Comfort Zone, never really knowing that the answer is right within their grasp.  This is where surrender comes in to play.

By choosing to move forward on a personal intimate journey in Christ, with the Holy Spirit at the helm, we are surrendering and saying in essence that we trust God to bring us the whole way.  Unfortunately, most of us move kicking and screaming the whole way.  We try to keep control of our lives and the individuals around us, so God steps back and allows us to fail, and continue to fail.  Until the point when the pain outweighs the fear will we begin to change.  Like a panic-stricken victim flailing water as they begin drowning in a deep foreboding lake, the only means of being saved by another is by surrendering.  God waits until we surrender and turn to Him for direction.

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. Matthew 16:25 (NLT)

It is only when things get totally out of control and the façade we build up for the rest of the world begins to crumble do we get honest.  This “secret life,” or behind the scenes reality, will eventually be exposed for the world to see if we remain in fear.  It has to come to the point of no more hiding, no more facades, no more managing the truth about our life- it is about coming out whether we want it to or not to find true healing and complete freedom.  Fortunately, God’s love of his children, like it or not, forces many of us out of our comfort zone.  Put it simply – out of denial.

As children of the Most High God, we are called throughout our lives to keep moving forward in His purpose our lives.  Each individual plays an important part in God’s Master plan when we choose to surrender.  Unnatural fear is not part of the equation when we are truly trusting in God and allow His grace to carry us through to victory and out of our Comfort Zone.  The purpose for our life becomes defined and refined for a plan much bigger than ourselves.
