The Personal Journey 365, words, words, words, and the Power of The Word

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20, NIV

If the tongue has the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21), and we were given dominion over all of the earth by God (Genesis 1:26), then why do believers experience such disappointment and defeat in their lives?  As true believers in Jesus Christ we have within us the Glory of God – the Holy Spirit, and we no longer belong to this world.  Yet the ruler of this world, the Enemy, will make every attempt to deceive our understanding of whom we are and the power given to us by God.

The Tongue.  What power is in the tongue!  When we come to the realization of the power of the words that come from our mouth we become most vigilant in what we say.  To speak in derogatory ways hurts not only our life, but the lives of those around us.  However, to speak the God-given Word found in the Bible brings God’s promises, power and abundant life into our circumstances. This includes excellent health, thriving relationships, abundant finances, and overall well-being.

So with being said, how do we begin to watch our words?  Since our words start in our mind and out of the state of our heart, this is where the battle begins.  It is a spiritual battle and the only weapon the Enemy possesses is deception.  He is out to kill, steal and destroy everything we hold dear.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10, NIV

Notice the term “thief,” implying that he wants to take what we already possess.  Jesus Christ is our savior, our healer, our truth and the redeemer of everything we have lost.  He is the Word Incarnate – the Word made flesh.  Thus to receive our inheritance as children of God, and co-heirs with Christ, we must proclaim our rights in the promises out loud.

In the beginning, God spoke the world and all of its creation into existence, and in the end Christ our redeemer will slay the Enemy with the double-edge sword from His mouth.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within the believer the words of the Bible come alive as we speak His promises aloud.  Faith grows and becomes part of our heart and our thinking, and we are able to see the true desires of our heart come to fruition on earth.

Dominion –is the power or right of governing and controlling; sovereign authority.  God has ultimate dominion, but as God’s children He has given us dominion over all of the earth.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26, NKJV

Again, Man fails to stand and speak in the authority that God has given us because we believe the lies spoken to our minds and seen in our circumstances by the prince of darkness of this world.  We are in this world, but not of this world. Therefore, when we are surrendered to our redeemer His Holy Spirit opens the eyes of our hearts and our minds to see who we really are in Him.

Even God’s angels respond to His heirs of salvation, as we give voice to God’s promises.  They are given the marching orders to see that the promises are fulfilled in our life.  The angels know that Jesus taught us all we need to know to walk in complete authority, and not doubt in our hearts.  The answers are staring us in the face, but we must choose to speak in faith, walk in faith, and give glory to God as His children.

So begin by speaking God’s promises out loud; then watch your body respond to healing.  Speak His Word to your circumstances; then observe your situation and relationships turn around.  Declare with the boldness the authority God has given you; and realize victory in every area of your life.
